AT&T 3G Fail

The whole idea of updating more often seems to have been lost as I got caught up with the rest of life. Anyway, I will make sure I finally write something about the iPhone 4 overall, but what I will say is that AT&T's 3G service in Manhattan is absolutely abysmal. In fact, it's nonexistent.

I have five bars of 3G service being displayed on my updated iPhone 4 (so the bars are represented more accurately). My co-workers are also in the same situation as me with their iPhone 4s. To top it all off, if I look out the window from the 12th floor building we are working in, I can actually see the AT&T building in the near distance and its cell towers, which are more than likely serving our needs here (or rather- not serving).

I complained about this lack of data services on Twitter last week, and eventually received a response from one of their customer service folks who assured me that there was degraded AT&T service in our area and it would be resolved shortly. I was actually satisfied by receiving a response and having an update. However, here we are and the past 3 days have just been awful.

When testing out the 3G speed, I am consistently getting 0 kbps for both upload and download. There is no data service. This has trickled into the inability to even send or receive text messages from time to time.

What gives? I thought they spent a billion dollars or so to improve service. Clearly, they haven't spent nearly enough. If it wasn't for the iPhone 4, I believe the 5 lines I have would have all switched to Verizon or Sprint. At least their data still works.
