You also have the ability to disable or temporarily turn off these services by not using the apps.  Apple clearly did not make known that the phone was storing the locations, and did not provide a way to turn off this feature without jail breaking.  Besides versions of Android, the other mobile operating systems were not responsible for storing this data.  Only applications which you have to sign up.
